A Simple SERPs Keyword Trick for Internal Link Building

When you publish a new page, you want to tell Google which keyword this page is about using the internal linking signals that are a major ranking factor, and is at your disposal to implement easily.

This should be used building out your content silos while doing silo seo edits across your key themed pages that are to be clustered together for the algorithm to pass link juice from child pages to the primary pages so they rank for your primary keywords.

You will need to identify which pages are to be the child / parent pages while building your silo structures and this is a good method to do so.

Sure, you have to optimize for this primary keyword on the page itself, but you also need to pass signals down to Google by getting other pages on your website to link to this new page.

And, for these internal links pointing to this new page, you want to be using the primary keyword as much as you can or a combination of multiple primary and secondary keywords.

This gives the internal backlink signal to Google – which is a very significant and powerful part of the ranking algorithm.
So, if you’re thinking of building for example say 10 internal backlinks to this page, then I would suggest you find say 5 pages (50%) on your site that contain primary keyword(s) and then another 5 pages (50%) that contain the variety of secondary keywords. To do this, you simply follow the method below for each of the keywords.

Building out a proper internal linking structure is a key component that top SEOs look at closely when they do an SEO audit.

Finding Internal Pages Containing A Specific Keyword

Here’s a simple and effective trick to find all the internal pages on your website you can add backlinks to, that contain a specific keyword – that you can then use as an anchor to point to a new page that you publish on the specific keyword topic.

To uncover the pages that contain a specific keyword simply go to Google and enter the following search operator –
site:youdomain.com “keyword we want to anchor”
As an example, let’s suppose on my blog I write a new article for which my primary keyword is say – “pbn guide”.

I would then do a search in Google with the following search operator…
site:packs.inspiremelabs.com “pbn guide”
This result of this search would give me all the pages on my website that contain the keyword “pbn guide” in the content.

Here’s what the SERPs would look like for this example…

Now, I can proceed to simply edit each of these pages and add backlinks that point to my new page using the anchor “pbn guide” where it occurs on these pages! (preferably in just one place per page).

Which Pages Give You The Most Link Juice?

If you wanted to sort these pages out in order of the relevancy of their ability to pass link juice down to my newly published page, you simply take the ones that are higher up in the SERPs – as they are the more powerful ones!

Google is already showing us the one’s it thinks to be the most relevant for this keyword higher up in the SERPs.

Of course, if you wanted to – you could also mass check the URL rating (UR) of each of the pages in Google SERPs by using a tool like Ahrefs . You would have to first export the list of URLs in the SERPs by using a SERP scraper tool like Chris Ainsworth Serp Scraper Chrome Extension – and then plugging the scraped list into bulk checker in Ahrefs.

Here’s how the Serp Scraper output looks like for my example above…

Hope you enjoyed this neat little trick that can be done without any paid tools! Unless of course, you wanted to do mass checks in Ahrefs – which I don’t think is required as the order in which Google serves you the pages in the results – is the most accurate order of power and relevancy for that keyword! Way more accurate than Ahrefs (without taking away and due credit to Ahrefs as it is an SEO tool I use a lot! 🙂
